Job Description:              

American Technical Services, Inc. (atspage.com), is a leading technology and engineering company providing government and commercial clients a wide range of metrology & calibration engineering services. We are seeking a Metrology Engineer to join our metrology team.  The successful candidate will be working with an outstanding team of individuals in a dynamic work environment that will make a significant long-term contribution to the operations of the U.S. Navy.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will serve as a critical liaison between engineering teams, Navy calibration laboratories, and stakeholders to support modernization initiatives within NSWC Corona Division. Responsibilities include managing projects from requirements through implementation, translating customer needs into technical solutions, coordinating engineering resources, monitoring schedules and milestones, and ensuring successful execution of calibration and assessment activities.

The role requires administration and utilization of multiple Navy databases and applications, including METRL, NCE, CSAMS, MCMS, CERAP, RAW, and DODMIDAS. The individual will navigate complex Multi-SYSCOM processes, facilitate technical change approvals, and maintain compliance with Navy policies, standards, and laboratory requirements.

Additional duties include conducting site visits and vendor engagements, verifying test procedures, supporting customer satisfaction efforts, and identifying future modernization opportunities. The position demands strong organizational skills, technical coordination capabilities, and the ability to work independently while managing specialized initiatives such as METRL Milestone C cleanup activities, Calibration Problem Reports (CPRs), and CALSTD-related actions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physical Science, Information Systems, Business Management, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Experience supporting Navy, DoD, or Federal Government programs, preferably within metrology, calibration, maintenance, logistics, or systems engineering environments.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating technical projects and working with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Experience managing project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and customer requirements.
  • Familiarity with Navy calibration laboratory operations, test procedures, and modernization initiatives is highly desirable.
  • Experience conducting customer site visits, vendor coordination, and stakeholder engagement activities.

Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.

Job Title:                           Computer Systems Analysis III

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Computational Scientist with a strong foundation in mathematics, statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data manipulation techniques. This role involves developing mathematical models and their computational implementation to expedite and improve development of metrology solutions, including measurement standards and data products estimating uncertainty and its propagation.  The successful candidate will be working with an outstanding team of individuals in a dynamic work environment that will make a significant long-term contribution to the operations of the U.S. Navy.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis and Exploration:
  • Collect, clean, and preprocess large and complex datasets from various sources, e.g., high-dimensional measurement data from complex experimental setups involving many sensors.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies.
  • Develop and maintain data quality checks and validation procedures.
  • Model Development and Deployment:
  • Design, develop, and evaluate computational models for pertinent application space, e.g., dynamic temperature sensing within hypersonic flow field using Physics-Informed Neural Networks
  • Independently research and implement new technologies and methodologies.
  • Optimize model performance considering both fidelity and computational efficiency.
  • Utilize statistical methods to quantify uncertainty and its propagation.
  • Advance developed products through Technology Readiness Levels and impacting Fleet readiness
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in, e.g., scientific literature
  • Statistical Analysis and Experimental Design
  • Apply statistical methods to design and analyze experiments for optimizing measurement procedures and evaluating the performance of new sensor technologies.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
  • Communicate complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences through clear and concise presentations and reports.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including scientists, program managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of data science best practices and standards

Education

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in a quantitative field such as Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • 2+ years of experience with writing computer code with C/C++, MATLAB, or Python languages
  • 2+ years of experience with developing and deploying machine learning models.
  • Experience with statistical modeling techniques (e.g., regression, time series analysis, hypothesis testing).
  • Strong understanding of mathematical analysis, measurement principles, error analysis, and uncertainty quantification.
  • Preference towards finite element modeling and analysis, as related to the above
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, and Matplotlib).
  • Experience working with larger datasets (e.g., 1M+ data points) and high performance computation

Skills

  • Proficient in Python, C/C++, MATLAB and/or R.
  • Experience with scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and/or other relevant libraries.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems (e.g., RHEL 9)

We are seeking a technically proficient Scientist to join our metrology team.  The successful candidate will be working with an outstanding team of individuals in a dynamic work environment that will make a significant long-term contribution to the operations of the U.S. Navy.

Key Responsibilities:

Sensor and Standard Development: Take a leading role in the design, development, and deployment of metrological sensors and calibration standards for electromagnetic sensing and directed energy, with emphasis on light detection and ranging (LiDAR) and structured light applications.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Maintain comprehensive documentation for tools, instrumentation, and processes. Act as a knowledge resource for junior scientists and other team members, facilitating knowledge transfer and best practices.

Continuous Improvement: Identify and lead initiatives to improve sensor and calibration standard delivery times and support, leveraging new technologies and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master of Science or higher in Physics, Optics, Optical Science and Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with optical propagation modeling and simulation, emphasis on LiDAR design or structured light propagation
  • 3+ years of experience with writing computer code with C/C++, MATLAB, or Python languages
  • 2+ years of design experience with optical ray-tracing and/or finite element method simulation software or related scientific computing software, emphasis on metrological sensor and standard development
  • Experience with Class IV continuous wave or pulsed laser systems
  • Understanding of measurement uncertainty quantification and how it relates to calibration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with LiDAR sensors, directed energy applications, or related with emphasis on sensor and metrological standard development
  • Proficiency in sensor design, inclusive of hardware and software integration
  • Proficiency in design of experiments, utilizing multiple optical elements and laser sources
